Man chopped multiple times in the head for a bicycle

BBN Staff:A man was nearly chopped to death in western Belize for a bicycle.

He is construction worker, Jose Lopez, 18.

Lopez told police that at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday he was making his way from the Rivera area in Belmopan to the highway when he was accosted by a machete man.

The assailant demanded he hand over his bicycle but while doing so Lopez was chopped several times to the left side of his head.

He was transported to the Western Regional Hospital and then the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police have not yet identified any possible suspects.
