By BBN Staff: For the last several weeks all eyes have been focused on the Port Loyola constituency where four United Democratic Party (UDP) aspirants are vying to succeed outgoing area representative, Anthony “Boots” Martinez.
Those candidates include Attorney-General/Senator Michael Peyrefitte; former city councilors Dean Samuels and Philip Willoughby, as well as fervent party supporter, Shane Williams.
In an interview yesterday with 7news, Martinez declared support for Peyrefitte.
This comes as a surprise since he had long declared support for his protege, Samuels.
According to Martinez, Samuels is no longer in the race and Peyrefitte is now the best fit for the constituency.
With the initial four man race cut down to three, BBN understands that the party is making moves to endorse Peyrefitte.
Willoughby, thought to be a solid contender, was first told that if he wanted to participate in the convention he would have to leave his government post; which he did immediately.
When asked if he would retire early to trigger a bye election for Peyrefitte, Martinez told 7news, ” We nuh reach da stage deh yet.”
