By BBN Staff: The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center (TBZ) issued a statement today saying that it is deeply mourning the tragic loss of their longtime colleague and dear friend, Richard Foster.

“We are forever grateful and honored to have had Richard as part of our zoo family; since TBZ’s inception, he was at the foundation and heart of this institution, and, through his camera lens, passionately shared our commitment to the protection of Belize’s wildlife and their habitats,” the statement said.

For the last three decades, Foster was an influential person for many conservation programs in Belize and will be deeply missed by the management and staff at the zoo.

The Belize Zoo joins many others in Belize and beyond in offering heartfelt condolences and support to his wife, Carol, and their family.

Yesterday, Foster was reported missing from his home and last night around 8:45 PM, police discovered his body in Belmopan. According to authorities, Foster was stabbed to death.

Hitherto, police have not made any arrest and investigations are ongoing.
