By BBN Staff:  On Wednesday, August 15, 2018, National Security Minister, John Saldivar visited the troops at the Cadenas Observation post in the south-westernmost part of Belize’s border with Guatemala.

Since 1993, every BDF soldier who has served at the Cadenas Observation Post knows the grueling ordeal of going up and down the mountaintop where the observation post is located.

However, a new initiative by Saldivar will now go a long way in making this trek more bearable. Saldivar visited Cadenas to see the work now in progress to construct a stairway to the top of the mountain.

The project is long-term and when completed will have over a thousand (1000)steps.

Saldivar also made the arduous trek to the Gracias a Dios monument which marks the southernmost point of our land border with Guatemala.

The delegation then went to visit the troops stationed at the Sarstoon Observation Post.

Saldivar thanked all uniformed officers for their continued commitment to the preservation of Belize’s territorial integrity.
