By BBN Staff: The Benque Viejo-based Marimba cultural group, Hijos del West, returned to Belize today, following a month-long visit to Taiwan to participate in the Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folkgames festival.
Five of the group’s 11 members, flew out to represent the entire group and returned to Belize this afternoon, greeted by their families and the media.
The group’s leader, Ian Yacab, explained that the group performed twice a day, seven days a week for the entirety of their stay in Taiwan.
“I can say we came back very motivated because we saw many things that we don’t see in our country,” Yacab said. “Looking at the performances we have seen out there, we know we can do so much more.”
Yacab, who founded the group, traveled with Christian Archila, 20; Emil Hernandez, 17; Luis Quiroz,14; and Leandro Pacheco, 9.
