By BBN Staff: After much delay and controversy, the People’s United Party (PUP) will hold its standard-bearer convention in Belmopan.
The event will be held this Sunday at the Belmopan Comprehensive High School.
Retired military officer, Oscar Mira; former public officer, Weizsman Pat; and political newcomer, Michelle Rodriguez, will be battling for the post of standard bearer.
PUP insiders have indicated that Mira is favored by the power brokers of the PUP and they want to see him succeed.
We recall that the least favorite person who applied to participate in the convention was attorney-at-law, Arthur Saldivar.
After a legal jaunt and continued legal hullabaloos, he has been
denied by the party twice.
The vetting committee is of the view that he isn’t fit to represent the party.
Former Belmopan standard bearer, Patrick Jason Andrews, was also barred from representing the party.
The vetting committee was of the view that following his loss at the polls in 2015 he had abandoned the constituency.
Since his dismissal, he has again fallen off the radar and has not mounted a legal challenge like his colleague, Saldivar.
Our newsroom will report the result of this weekend’s convention when it becomes available to us.
