By BBN Staff: The Belize National Library Service information in collaboration with the Friends of EL Pilar are hosting the ‘El Pilar Itinerant Photo Exhibit’.
The exhibit is being held under the theme ‘Sub Umbra Floreo’.
The exhibition is being hosted at the National Heritage Library in Belmopan since June.
On August 23, the Photo Exhibit will be taken down to provide for its movement to Dangriga.
On September 12, the exhibit will be hosted at the Ignacia Cacho Library and Allan Arthurs Library in Dangriga.
The exhibition features photos, literature and ethnobotany celebrating the El Pilar Archaeological Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna and the Maya Forest Gardeners.
The photo exhibit features unique panoramic photographs of eminent international photographer Macduff Everton.
The Exhibition connects traditional farming with the ancient Maya monuments.
Visitors will be able to see the new LiDAR images of El Pilar that reveal the ground surface interpreted by lasers from the air alongside photos of the plazas and structures you can visit on the ground.
Importantly, the basis of the traditional Milpa Cycle is imaged with the perennial orchards and gardens that are our wealth untold.
The purpose of the Itinerant Exhibit is to inform and educate about El Pilar and to encourage the development of Forest Gardens, and at the same time to document stories on the impact plants have on our lives.
It will be the base for the compilation of stories in the uses of plants by communities highlighting the similarities and differences in its various uses and forms through culture, economics and health benefits of plants in our environment.
The public is encouraged to also share their knowledge of plants and gardens at the various locations the exhibit will be hosted.
