By BBN Staff: There is trouble brewing at the Gwen Lizarraga high school in Belize City.
An estimated 17 teachers stand to lose their jobs before the re-opening of classes on Monday.
BBN has learned that the reason for the reduction is because the school has seen a drop in its enrollment rate.
Reliable sources have indicated that the enrollment rate has declined by about 300 students.
And so for now the population stands at around 350 students total.
Sources tell our newsroom that the decline has been steady since the fiasco involving former Principal, Dr. Lorna Mckay.
She was forced out of the school last year.
While the fate of 17 teachers hangs in the balance, it is not yet known which teachers in particular stand to be terminated.
