John Paul Junior College conducts Leadership adventure

Posted: Thursday, August 23, 2018. 3:19 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Thirty-four students and teachers of John Paul II Junior College (JPIIJC) in Benque Viejo del Carmen conducted the school’s sixth annual Outdoor Leadership Adventure at Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve from August 14-19 .

Participants camped, hiked, prayed and studied during the six-day event.

The adventure is a vital part of the college’s unique liberal arts education.

Through the challenges they face, students build confidence, learn teamwork, and experience directly the natural beauty of Belize.

Second-year student, Salvador Iglesias, Jr., a veteran of last year’s adventure and a student leader this year, said, “Mountain Pine Ridge in its total beauty was like God’s love letter…Now I have fallen more in love with nature.”

JPIIJC instructs all its students in the Classical Trivium (grammar, rhetoric, and logic), as well as philosophy and theology.

The college also offers courses in business administration, Belizean studies, Latin, and literature.

Student Justin Vera described the importance of the OLA for the curriculum: “Here at JPIIJC you are called to keep growing, and keep challenging yourself to overcome and conquer the ‘valley’.

The adventure is not just a camp, or a retreat, it is a mindset for life.”

The college, located in Benque Viejo del Carmen, continues to grow, with record high enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year.
