New canoe race announced in Northern Belize

BBN Staff: A new canoe race is being advertised in Northern Belize.

The 1^st annual New River Quest is scheduled to begin on Sunday, October 14, 2018, during the Pan-American Holiday weekend (Sun-Mon) in October.

The race is a 2-day 2-person canoe competition commencing in the New River Lagoon at the Hill Bank Field Station and will enter the New River, and pass along in Orange Walk Town for the night’s camp.

 On the second day, the race exits the New River into the Caribbean Sea for a 3mile stretch along the coastline to Corozal Town for the big finish.

According to the organizers, the race will pass through Shipyard, Guinea Grass and Carmelita villages in Orange Walk.

On Monday, October 15, 2018, the race will go through from San Estevan, Caledonia, Estrella and Libertad Villages in Corozal.

Standardized 20ft canoes will be used.

The race is being organized as an 82-mile race for paddlers.

The event is managed and organized by several canoe enthusiast volunteers.
