Belize opens consulate in Chicago, USA

By BBN Staff: Many Belizean-Americans gathered yesterday in downtown Evanston, Chicago to witness the opening ceremony for Belize’s new consular office in Chicago.

Belize’s ambassador to the United States of America, Daniel Guiterez, was present at the ceremony.

Lety Kuylen Castellanos is the new Belizean consulate for the office.

Attendees were treated to a tour of the new consulate and passport office located on the sixth floor at 1603 Orrington Av. in the Chase Bank Building.

At the ceremony, Castellanos expressed her enthusiasm to fulfill her responsibilities as Honorary Consul.

Ambassador Guiterrez emphasized his dedication to continue serving the diaspora.

Master of Ceremonies for the event, Karl Villanueva reminded attendees of Evanston’s close ties to Belize city through its sister-city relationship and acknowledged prominent Belizean families who have made Evanston their home.

Also present at the ceremony was Alderwoman Robin Rue Simmons from Evanston’s 5th on behalf of the city of Evanston.

Officials representing the city of Waukegan, the Office of State’s Attorney, Lisa Madigan, and Lake County Assessor’s Office also attended.
