Disaster assessment workshop underway in Sandhill, Belize

BBN Staff: Minister of National Emergency Management, Edmond Castro this morning addressed organizers, facilitators and participants at a one-day Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (DANA) workshop currently underway in rural Belize district.

Castro thanked attendees for their dedication and sacrifice for the safety of their communities and the nation. He said their role and mission is demanding, but it can also be very rewarding.

The workshop is being attended by public officers who are part of the district emergency committees, as well as village leaders and volunteers.

It covers the various types of disaster assessment and analysis, such as Initial Situation Assessment, Initial Damage Assessment and Detail Sectoral Assessment.

The main facilitator is Principal Hydrologist, Tennielle Williams, who is Deputy Chair of the Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Committee.

The DANA Workshop, organized by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), is being conducted at the Belize District Rural NEMO Office in Sandhill village.
