Accused drug traffickers walk free after police a no show in court

Posted: Tuesday, August 28, 2018. 7:18 am CST.

BBN Staff: In court yesterday, Peter Schmidt, 37,  and Carlos Lopez, 33, walked free from firearm and drug related charges.

That is because the arresting officer was a no show in court. Leaving Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford to throw out the case.

In December 2017 both men were busted inside a rental vehicle with 5 kilos of cocaine and a firearm.

The men were driving in the Buttonwood Bay area of Belize City when cops pulled them over and asked for a search.

During the search, the discovery was made and so the men were charged with drug trafficking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In court, both men were represented by attorney Ellis Arnold.
