By BBN Staff: Melvin Arevalo, a Belizean ornithologist and tour guide working with Coppola Family Hideaways has been shortlisted for the Unsung Hero Award at Pure Life Experience 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Melvin is an accredited ornithologist and shares his deep knowledge of the birds of Belize with guests.
Guests have varied levels of interest in the experience, from avid to novice, yet each rave about the authenticity of the exploration with Melvin and the passion he exudes.
As well as guiding guests on the properties birds, he also spearheads the beach clean up teams, volunteers for every conservation protect, partnered with local Belize researchers to do a bird count and was invited by Cornell Ornithology department invited him to share his knowledge of the Birds of Belize.
His passion for birds is huge, in Melvin’s own words: ‘When I am watching them, when I am lost in being with them, I forget about myself and I am happy.’
