By BBN Staff: The Speaker of the House recorded 14 absent members at the voting in Parliament yesterday, after the People’s United Party (PUP) staged a walk out of the session.
The PUP stayed for the duration of the house meeting, called to bring the motion on whether or not the Government of Belize would pay some $95 million to the Belize Bank to settle the amount owed resulting from the Universal Health Services debt guarantee.
PUP Leader John Briceno spoke briefly on the way out, calling the entire sitting of the house a “Sham” and emphasizing that the Government of Belize is making a mockery of the House.
All members of the UDP voted no to the motion, making it the first time a government voted against its own motion.
