Cayo holds first ever West Fest!

Posted: Wednesday, September 5, 2018. 4:49 pm CST.

BBN Staff: The first ever West Fest, organized by the Cayo Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), is being held next Saturday, September 15 at the Macal River Park in Cayo from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The BTIA organized the event, recognizing Cayo as the only district that does not hold an annual expo, showcasing local businesses, artisans, culture, and food. According to the BTIA, West Fest will be a cultural, fun and family-oriented event meant to highlight the best of what Cayo has to offer. BTIA is hoping the event will be an annual one and expects the festival to become bigger each year.

West Fest will feature lots of activities and enjoyment, including a raffle in which participants will have a chance to win many different prizes. The grand prize is yet to be announced but sponsorship for prizes so far totals around $60,000 in value. The price for raffle tickets have been slashed to BZ$25 per ticket. And while West Fest is a family event, there will also be cocktails available as well as wine tasting. There will also a wide variety of food from various vendors who will be present for the event.

The public is encouraged to attend the first ever West Fest for fun, entertainment and deals from the local businesses. Booths are still available and the cut off date to sign up is September 12, 2018.

The entrance fee is $2 and the funds raised will go towards purchasing equipment for the San Ignacio Police Formation.

Attendees are asked to bring their own totes and reusable cups since the event is being used to promote eco-tourism in western Belize.
