Ministry of National Security says drug plane story is ‘fake’

Posted: Wednesday, September 5, 2018. 9:35 am CST.

BBN Staff: This morning, the Ministry of National Security issued a statement informing that it has confirmed that the pictures of a supposed drug plane contained in a post by “Vincent Edwards” on Facebook and republished by The Reporter Newspaper are from a news article published in Guyana.

The story can be read at: http://guyanachronicle.com/…/suspicious-activity-reported-w….

The Ministry further confirms that the photographs of coordinates in that same post are from a notebook found in the charred remains of a plane discovered in northern Belize in March of this year.

“The insinuation however that the Police knew these coordinates beforehand is ridiculously false as the Police only came upon these coordinates with the discovery of the burnt plane,” the statement says.

Last week, photos of planes, suspected cargo, and the coordinates went viral through a profile that purports to be that of Vincent Edward Martinez, who is the brother of Port Loyola Area Representative, Anthony “Boots” Martinez, however, the actual identity of the user behind the profile is unconfirmed.

The Ministry believes that there is a deliberate effort to use leaked information along with fabricated material to concoct a story that casts false negative aspersions on the Police Department and public officials.

The Ministry is warning the public and the media to carefully examine these type of posts and stories before “hastening to publish and adding counter-productively to the erosion of public trust in the Police Department.”
