Police suspect inside job in theft of over US $400,000 in Western Free Zone

BBN Staff:  Police are investigating a burglary that occurred in the Benque Viejo Free zone.

Sometime between the hours of 1:50 and 2:50 am today, Kortobacco Ltd. in the Benque Viejo Free Zone was burglarized.

Police investigation revealed that the burglars gained access to the compound from an opening on the western side of the building.

Once inside the compound, the culprits torched two metal doors, gained access to the building and went directly to where the money was kept.

The burglars made away with US $406,505.00  in cash.

The compound is secured by two-night security guards who claimed not to have seen or heard nothing as they were near the gas station when the burglary took place.

The proprietor of the establishment is out of the country and from all indications, police believe that the burglary has the characteristics of an inside job.

 Police have interviewed several persons as the investigation continues.
