From that chance encounter, a partnership was formed, with the very popular resort pledging much needed assistance to the school.
Earlier this month, employees from BOC’s maintenance department completed the installation of four wooden doors and did finish work to two other doors, which were previously donated by another selfless donor.
In addition, white boards were provided and installed in all fourteen classrooms which will enable the school and its teachers to transition away from the use of traditional chalkboards, which produce a dust that poses a serious health risk to the school’s teachers and young students alike.
The funds were raised during the months of June and July by the resort, which donates BZ $2 per room rented.
BOC also invited guests to match its donation and that effort netted BZ $3,964.98 used to purchase the much-needed items.
In 2018, the resort has donated BZ$17,984.48 to various community organizations and schools.
Other recipients of financial aid from BOC include St. John’s Preschool, Fragments of Hope and the Placencia Humane Society among others.
However, this is not the end of the relationship between St. Alphonsus and Belize Ocean Club, as the school, home to 352 students, has many other critical needs to which the BOC family has pledged its continued assistance.
