By BBN Staff: Police officer Norman Anthony attached to Blue Creek, Orange Walk was detained on Sunday night near an illegal aircraft that contained 26 bails of cocaine.
However, according to Belize’s Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, the officer was not found where the plane landed, instead he was near the area and when questioned by responding authorities, Anthony’s response did not satisfy their queries so he was arrested.
Anthony was placed on suspension pending the investigation of his involvement in the illegal plane landing.
Two Mexicans and another Belizean found in the area have been charged.
But on Tuesday night, Anthony was released from police custody.
Reports suggest that Anthony is now contemplating suing the Belize Police Department.
While Anthony has not been charged for any crime, sources say that his release may be due to the time police can hold a person legally without bringing charges but he may be detained again as the investigation continues.
