Belize~Citizens committee declares Victory

By Richard Harrison: The Belize Citizens Committee started as an idea three months ago and today is a countrywide organization with a momentum that spooked the Government of Belize into blocking its initiative to enhance the official Independence Day celebrations in Belmopan with the Belize Unity Parade of 15,000 patriots.

The Committee declares victory for the following reasons:

1. The seeds of change have been planted, as the committee is successfully defining itself as an organic, authentic and credible Belizean movement driven by SELF-DETERMINATION and pooling of voluntary Belizean resources, genuinely reaching across traditional political divide, and acting in the best interest of Belize and Belizeans..

2. It has emerged as the leading, non-political advocate for the “No To ICJ” campaign with support across Belize and in the diaspora.

3. It has developed confidence in its arguments answering the questions: why say no to ICJ? How best to say no to ICJ? What to do after we say no to ICJ? And most straw polls currently indicate 70% of voters in favor of the “no to ICJ” vote.

From the beginning we argued that the ICJ crisis has come as an ultimate challenge for Belize to change itself…to turn around from its downward spiral of self-destruction and retreat from its Constitution, independence and sovereignty….and instead to use this challenge to catapult itself unto a rapid development pathway using Singapore and Costa Rica as examples…become a place of economic and sustainable development excellence.

We will continue to provide leadership for the “No To ICJ” campaign to ensure a victory if the illegal, unconstitutional referendum is ever held….however, we will also explore all avenues to stop the process in its tracks…including calling for a vote in the House of Representatives, as well as pursuing legal and other routes to end this unjust, divisive, destructive challenge to the people of Belize by big bullies.

The “No to ICJ” campaign will continue seek to unite ALL Belizeans across ALL that divides them…because it is only in unity that we will prevail….and when we win a massive NO TO ICJ vote in April 2019 or before….the strength of our unity will allow us to face and conquer any challenge…we will be on the path to the New Belize!

The New Belize is SELF-DETERMINED, independent and sovereign over all its territory #8867….it abides by the spirit of the preamble of our Belize Constitution, with which all laws must be aligned and enforced…which guarantees us, through economic, judicial and political reforms…freedom, peace and prosperity… and for all its people to advance according to merit, ability and integrity.
