By BBN Staff: Authorities in northern Belize are still investigating last Thursday’s shooting at the home of a police officer.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, on the night of September 20, the common-law wife of the officer reported that she was alone in her home in the village of San Joaquin, Corozal, when she heard gunfire.
“She heard several bangs but did not pay much attention to it as she thought it was fireworks,” said Myvett.
However, when she woke up in the morning and exited her home, she saw a number of expended shells on the street side.
Upon taking a closer look, she noticed that her home had been shot seven times.
Scenes of Crime Technicians were called to the area and were able to recover eleven 9 millimeter expended shells.
At the time of the shooting, the officer was reportedly on duty.
According to Myvett, the motive for this shooting is not yet known
