By BBN Staff: Under Belize’s Presidency Pro Tempore of SICA, representatives of the countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) met in Belize on Monday, September 24, 2018, for the SICA Preparatory Cooperation Meeting.
According to a press release from GOB’s Press Office, the objective of the Preparatory Cooperation Meeting was to evaluate and prioritize the 25 regional cooperation projects and 1 project for the Strengthening of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Central America.
The XVII Mixed Commission between Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Republic of China (Taiwan) will meet in December 2018 to review the projects for approval.
The release says that the regional cooperation projects to be presented to the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) are estimated at US$45 Million dollars.
The release notes that the projects are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the five pillars of the Central American Integration System namely, Economic Integration, Social Integration, Climate Change and Integrated Risk Management, Democratic Security and Institutional Strengthening.
Taiwan is the third largest development partner of SICA and in 2002 it was welcomed as an Extra Regional Observer State.
