y BBN Staff: Various municipalities across the country have experienced the loss of human life in massive fires.

Belize City has not been excluded from this phenomenon.

However, the Belize City Council is taking proactive measures to be better positioned to combat this disaster.

Mayor Bernard Wagner this week wrote the National Fire Service and the Belize Water Services Limited asking that they both inspect the fire hydrants in place across the city.

Additionally, he asked that they make recommendations for locations where new fire hydrants could be positioned.

Mayor Wagner has also committed a portion of the council’s budget to providing fire detectors to city residents.

Those detectors will be distributed in the upcoming weeks.
