By BBN Staff: Last night, Haiti was struck by a strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake.
The United States Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the quake was located 12 miles northwest of Port-de- Paix.
Haitian authorities have recorded 11 deaths,135 injured, and significant damages to buildings.
The quake shook Haiti at 8:10 last night at a depth of 7 miles. It was felt in Port-de-Prince where residents are still trying to rebuild their lives after the 2010 massive 7.1 earthquake that killed tens of thousands of Haitians and left thousands more displaced.
After the tremor, 2 minor aftershocks were also felt.
Haiti’s President, Jovenel Moise via his Twitter account informed Haitians that authorities were mobilizing injured people to the hospitals.
The quake is one of the strongest to hit the Caribbean nation since the catastrophic 2010 quake.
