Hurricane Michael moves away from Belize

Posted: Monday, October 8, 2018. 9:38 am CST.

Staff: Belize’s National Meteorological service was closely monitoring Michael as it gained strength to a Category 1 Hurricane.

The Meteorological Service reported today that Michael is moving over the extreme northwest Caribbean away from Belize.

The general weather calls for cloudy skies with some sunny breaks this morning. Some showers and thunderstorms will affect inland, central and northern areas this afternoon and tonight.

The wind will blow from the West to Southwest at 5 to 15 knots with gusty winds.

The sea state will be choppy-rough.

A small craft caution is in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Residents living in flood prone areas are advised to remain on the alert for the possibility of localized flooding later today.

The extended weather forecast is for some showers and thunderstorms to develop inland tomorrow and spread to coastal areas.
