The vans were obtained through the Universal Postal Union’s Quality of Service Fund (QSF).
The QSF was established in 2001 with an aim to render assistance to smaller post offices around the world with a view to improving the transportation and delivery of mails.
The source of funding for the QSF is through mandatory contribution paid into the fund by developed countries and territories.
It also receives funding through voluntary contributions from various agencies, and from investments made by the fund itself.
The fund is managed by a Board of Directors which seeks to ensure that the financial resources of the fund is available to especially small designated postal operators who may be most in need of assistance.
The new vans will replace two older vans, and will be used to transport mails from the General post office in Belize City to the Northern and Western districts of Belize on a daily basis.
The acquisition of these two (2) mail vans will greatly assist the Belize Postal Service in mail delivery.
