BNTU supports the Christian Worker’s Union in their fight

Posted: Thursday, October 11, 2018. 9:28 pm CST.

BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers’ UnionB(BNTU) issued a statement today informing that they support the Christian Worker’s Union (CWU) in its right to bring to a close its round of collective bargaining negotiations with the Port of Belize Limited (PBL).

“We at the BTNTU fully understand and can totally relate to the frustration of the Stevedores who have been patiently engaged in this process for over six years and have therefore been deprived of the benefits of its conclusion,” the BNTU said.

The BNTU believes that this recent “impasse” is wholly unnecessary and says that the “excuses” being employed by the PBL and their added refusal to move to pass the area of contention unto the other items on the agenda will see further deterioration of the process.

“Negotiations conducted by both sides, in good faith, can ultimately lead to amicable resolutions, therefore, [we] condemn the damning actions being displayed by the PBL, the BNTU further states.

The BNTU says that it stands firm in its continued support of their brothers and sisters of the CWU and wishes them well on the road to finding a resolution to the current impasse.

They also assured the CWU that they will continue to liaise with them to keep abreast of the developments and are prepared to take the necessary approved actions to ensure their negotiations conclude in a timely manner.

The BNTU ends the release by saying, “We will not sit idly and watch our brothers continue to be disadvantaged.”
