Picture: Voice of Americaran migrants have begun their caravan journey to the United States of America.
The vast amount of Hondurans set foot to the US only days after Vice President Mike Pence asked Central American leaders to halt immigration.
Last week, Vice President Pence met with leaders from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. Pence met with the Central American leaders to discuss the vast flow of undocumented immigrants into the United States.
Immigration continues to be a focal issue for the Trump administration.
Pence encouraged leaders to explain to their citizens that if they can’t enter the US legally, they should not enter at all. He commended Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala for the prosperous Northern triangle stating, “Your people will stay home if they believe there is a brighter future for them there.”
However, more than 1000 people including women and children left Honduras en route to the United States of America on Saturday. Over 64 percent of Hondurans live in poverty and San Pedro Sula has one of the world’s highest murder rates.
The “March of the Migrants”, as it is called, arrived yesterday in Guatemala.
Voice of America today reported that the group plans to go into Mexico, request refugee status or visas to enter the US.
US President’s Donald Trump administration continues to demand tougher immigration policies and border security enforcement.
