By BBN Staff : The ‘March of the Migrant’ began on Saturday in Honduras with just over 1,000 Hondurans en route to the United States of America.

The migrants are fleeing their country because of violence and poverty.

They left Honduras just days after Central American leaders met with US Vice President Mike Pence. Pence had urged the leaders to discourage their people from entering the US illegally.

Yesterday, the migrants made it to the Guatemala- Mexico Border.

After US President Donald Trump made several threats to cut foreign aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador if they did not halt the migration caravan, he applauded Mexico for sending troops to the border.

Mexican authorities prepared to receive the migrants and determine who would get refugee status and who will be deported back to their country.

Mexico has requested the assistance of the United Nations in the process of issuing asylum and deportation.

The march of the migrant has swollen now to 4,000 people, mostly Hondurans.

Mexico’s President elect, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has promised to issue work visas to the Central Americans. Obrador is scheduled to take office on December 1, 2018.

Trump also informed that if necessary, he would deploy the US military to its Southern border with Mexico to halt the migrants.

The Trump Administration continues to focus on strict migration policies and border security
