BNTU should not dictate on hardship allowances, says Faber

BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) and the Ministry of Education are sorting out some big issues in the educational system including the re-categorization of hardship allowances for teachers.

Last week, the BNTU issued a strongly worded statement warning the Ministry to cease from disrespecting them since the meeting dates were set and were not adhered to.

However, Belize’s Education Minister, Patrick Faber told the media last week that the Ministry did invite the BNTU and managing authorities to submit their recommendations however the BNTU failed to submit any.

Faber said that the BNTU wants to dictate how they will express their concerns and dictate the meeting.  “The B.N.T.U. insists that they don’t want to put forward their concerns in that manner. They want to dictate how they can put forward their concerns. They want to dictate a meeting.

Faber also reminded the BNTU that it is the Ministry of Education that makes education policy in Belize
