By BBN Staff : In a continued push to fight crime through community initiatives, Region 1 of the Belize Police Department hosted an employment training this week for aspiring bartenders.
Over 25 participants gathered at Sit and Sip on Princess Margaret Drive for the one-week training, spearheaded by Officer Commanding Region 1 Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett.
Private sector partners Traveler’s Liquors and Price Premier Products assisted the training providing the local and imported liquors as well as the personnel who facilitated the training.
Fernando Oldiva, marketing, sales, and promotion officer for Travelers explained that participants will learn basic barkeeping, credentials to show that they completed the course.
Sr. Superintendent Gillet also brought in a retired public officer, Yuan Gillett, to discuss life skills in major topics, such as proper postures and the proper ways to sit and speak during a job interview.
“For many years we have heard that unemployment is a cause of crime and we can see that is shown by some of the crimes that are committed,” Gillett said.”I believe that helping young people to become mixologists is going to help.
The training ends with the certification ceremony on Friday.
