By BBN Staff:  Yesterday, the National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) issued a statement stating that the comments made by the Leader of the Opposition, John Briceño in regards to legalizing marijuana in Belize are ‘misguided’.

This week, the Government of Belize also issued a release rejecting Briceño’s proposal on cannabis.

Briceño’s speech has sparked public discussion with those for and against the legalization of marijuana in the country.

The NEAB stated in their release that “Since decriminalizing marijuana, murders of young men in Belize City have increased, cartel activity has increased, drug planes have increased, and marijuana trafficking arrests are happening weekly, almost always together with guns.”

The NEAB also cited a University of Montreal report that postulated that “even infrequent use of marijuana affects cognitive abilities in teens more than it was previously believed.”

The organization also shared recent studies that show the increase of traffic accidents in all the U.S. states that legalized marijuana.

The NEAB says that Belize was just shocked with a horrendous EMO, weed-induced ritual murder in the West, and the rape/violation of a 5-year-old child that was left traumatized and bleeding, so they are appalled that the Leader of the Opposition would neglect to address such moral atrocities, and instead focus on solving  economic problems with a marijuana industry.

The NEAB calls for an awakening in Belize – one of honesty, family values,  hard work and responsible living, fewer bars and more youth outreach centers.

The association also calls on all churches and all Belizeans to ‘press forward for what we know is right in God’s eyes and guide our beloved Belize into God’s blessing!’
