By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) today issued a statement expressing great satisfaction on the resolution of the threatened
strike by the stevedores, represented by the Christian Workers Union (CWU), at the Port of Belize (PBL).
The PUP says that the withdrawal of the 21-days Industrial Action Notice by the CWU is a testament of the progress made in solving the long-standing issues between the CWU and the Port of Belize Ltd. (PBL).
The PUP welcomes the increased benefits for the stevedores and urges the parties to continue their negotiation towards concluding a Collective Bargaining Agreement which has been outstanding for far too long.
“We believe that above all, job security
must be achieved so that the stevedores can have a sense of security which, in turn, will contribute to improved employee/employer relations,” the PUP stated.
The PUP congratulates both parties in securing a much improved and favorable working environment which will result in greater efficiency in the services offered by the Port of Belize Ltd. and will ultimately contribute to the development of more competitive businesses.
