By BBN Staff: Over the weekend, social media went abuzz with reports of a body found in the Belize River near the swing bridge in Belize City.
Today during a press conference, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, shared more details on this story.
He revealed that body was seen floating on Saturday night. Police reportedly contacted the Belize Coast Guard for assistance in recovering the body.
When the body was recovered it exhibited no signs of foul play and so Cowo suspects that it was a case of drowning.
However, a post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow.
According to Cowo, the body was described as that of San Pedro native, Manuel Mendoza, who had relocated to Belize City years ago and was a constant fixture at the old commercial center where he lived a life of alcoholism.
