By BBN Staff:A video message released last week by Leader of the Opposition, John Briceno has sparked a backlash from the Government of Belize and activated a public discussion on the possibility of legalizing marijuana in Belize.

At today’s press conference, Prime Minister Dean Barrow criticized Briceno’s call for marijuana legalization and explained that such a motion would not be good for Belize.

Barrow called Briceno’s call for the legalization of marijuana  ‘desperate’ and ‘bizarre’.

“This latest googly of his has to be one of the most fantastical ever. To propose legalizing marijuana for the export market is indeed bizarre,” Barrow stated.

The Prime Minister also said that if Belize would ever decide to legalize marijuana it would add to the clandestine plane landings and would propel the cartels to freely to operate in the country.

Furthermore, Barrow added that the international implications could surely destroy Belize.
