Belize to benefit from more infrastructural works

Posted: Thursday, November 1, 2018. 9:06 am CST.

BBN Staff : On Monday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow informed the nation that several huge infrastructural developments will commence across Belize.

Among the projects is the Caracol road, Coastal road, the Airport Link road, the replacement of the Haulover bridge and the reconstruction of a road from Corozal to Sarteneja.

The Airport Link road will connect the Philip Goldson and George Price highways between Ladyville and the mile eight community.

Barrow said that the total funding for the Caracol road is US $90 million broken up between the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Kuwaiti Fund.

The Coastal Road project is budgeted at US $80 million and funded by the British government.

“Regarding the ongoing rebuilding of the Hummingbird Highway, a contract has been awarded for the replacement of bridges and improvement of road-widening works which together constitutes the last remaining section of the highway’s reconstruction,” Barrow explained.

The physical work on the Caracol road project is scheduled to commence before the end of this year.
