By: BBN Staff: Yesterday, the family of police officer and member of Squad 87, Osbourn Martinez and the Belize Police Department bid farewell to the fallen officer.

A service of thanksgiving was held at Sacred Heart Church in Dangriga and then the state funeral went through the streets of Dangriga and to the cemetery for interment.

During his address, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams stated that the police department bid farewell to a hero and an officer who “served selflessly and gave his life to protect others.” Martinez was killed in the line of duty on Friday, November 2, 2018. He was responding to a robbery in progress in Belize City when the culprit shot and killed him.

“The service was sad for both his family and the police department, we are surely going to miss him from among our ranks. Martinez’s funeral will go down in history as one of the largest Police funerals ever. Thanks to all those who came out to support the bereaved family and the police department as we give him our final respect,” Williams reflected.

Rest in Peace PC Osbourn Martinez.
