By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union (PSU) today fired off a statement announcing that it would hold a press conference in Belmopan this morning to address the issue of ownership and sale of its headquarters in that municipality.

According to the statement, despite an agreement with the Belmopan City Council and the PSU, Mayor Khalid Belilse and City Administrator, Ralston Frazer, “proceeded to dispose of the property without the knowledge of the Public Service Union of Belize.”

The statement added that the PSU had been involved in extensive good faith discussions with the Belmopan City Council as recent as October 9th to conclude the PSU’s acquisition of the land which housed its headquarters.

At its press conference today, the PSU says it will reveal, “All relevant and detailed information, including timelines surrounding this dishonorable act by Mayor Khalid Belilse, his council, and City Administrator Ralston Frazer, and the Government of Belize through the Lands Department.”

The PSU pointed out that the sale of the property was to a company formed one day before the transaction.

“Public Officers are encouraged to wear the color yellow on Monday to show solidarity with the Public Service Union,” said the statement.

In the meantime, the PSU will plan a series of action to have this transaction reversed.
