By BBN Staff: John McAfee, the millionaire software developer who lived in Belize and was the center of a number of wild escapades, has been found “liable” by a Florida, US district court, of the death of his neighbor Gregory Faull, for which he was sought for questioning but later fled the country, marking the end of a five-year legal battle brought against McAfee by Faull’s estate.
Faull was found dead in his San Pedro home in 2012 with a gunshot wound to the head. He was found by a housekeeper inside his living room with a shot to the back of his head. McAfee had been sought by police following the incident for questioning, however, he fled to Guatemala, illegaly and by his own admission before attempting to seek asylum there and eventually being returned to the United States.
The civil case was later brought against McAfee by Faull’s relatives. “The Court will enter default judgment as to liability in favour of Plaintiff and against Defendant for the wrongful death of Gregory V. Faull,” ruled US District Judge Gregory Presnell, who had previously closed the case against McAfee until a US Court of Appeal ruling forced it back open. A report from UK-based newspaper, The Register, says that McAfee hadn’t even hired a lawyer to argue the case and Faull’s estate won a default judgement. A bench trial has been scheduled for January 2019 to determine what damages he will have to pay to the Faull estate.
