PUP Leader: “We stand with the PSU and the land must be returned”

By BBN Staff: Last night, the Opposition People’s United Party (PUP) hosted a consultation on the issue of taking Guatemala’s claim to Belize’s land, insular and maritime territories to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Center For Employment Training in San Ignacio Town.

After the discussions had concluded on the ICJ, PUP Party Leader, John Briceno addressed the gathering, “ This decision is one of the most important decision we would make since Independence. We have to be informed and we cannot allow the decision of ICJ to divide us.”

Briceno then stated that the ICJ is a national issue because any decision taken will go down in Belize’s history.

But before concluding his brief address, he asserted that the PUP will stand with the Public Service Union (PSU) and will fight and demand that the Hilltop land be returned to the PSU, “ We will stand with the PSU and fight for the land to be returned because it is the right thing to do.”
