By BBN Staff: Police are investigating a road traffic accident that claimed the life of a soldier from the Belize Defense Force (BDF) last night.
Estevan Caliz, 61, businessman of Big Falls village, Toledo reported to police that he was driving his red Ford Ranger pick-up on the Southern highway when upon reaching miles 90 and 91, he collided head on with a black and grey Lifan motor cycle.
The cycle was driven at the time by Ruben Sho, 27, a soldier of Water Supply area, Punta Gorda.
Sho sustained severe facial and body injuries including an amputation of his left foot from his knee.
He died on the scene and his body now awaits a post-mortem examination.
The motorcycle was extensively damaged.
The pick-up was damaged to the left front portion and its left front wheel was broken.
Caliz is in police custody as an investigation continues.
