Belmopan businessman gets 6 years for abetment to murder

Posted: Saturday, November 17, 2018. 8:10 am CST.

BBN Staff: In September, Belmopan businessman Jahan Abadi, was found guilty of abetment to murder. But yesterday, after deliberation, Justice Antoinette Moore sentenced him to six years in prison.

The charges against Abadi date back to January 2016 when he was one of the co-accused in the Bradley Paumen case. It is alleged that he and Paumen and others had conspired to pervert the court of justice. They reportedly planted an unlicensed gun and several ammunition on Paumen’s associate, Michael Modiri. Further evidence had revealed that he attempted to hire a hit man to execute Modiri.

The Director of Public Prosecution, Cheryl- Lynn Vidal, called the suggested hit man to testify against Abadi. The proposed hit man, a police officer, told the court that Abadi had approached in him in 2015 to kill Modiri or to find someone to do so for $3,000.

Weeks later the officer was approached again by Abadi and at this time he recorded the conversation about the hit.  This record was admitted as evidence.
