Mount Carmel teachers demand payment of salaries

Posted: Wednesday, November 21, 2018. 6:34 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Breaking Belize News yesterday broke the story that teachers from Mount Carmel Primary School had planned a demonstration today.

Teachers met with parents yesterday evening to explain their concerns, and a result, parents pledged their full support for the teachers.

Some of the teachers claim that they have not gotten their September salaries and others are still waiting for their October remuneration as well.

This morning, teachers showed up to demonstrate and parents supported them by not sending their children to classes.

The teachers are demanding that the Ministry of Education resolve the issues forthwith.

Teachers held banners that read, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes our duty, Pay our teachers!” and  “I teach my students to stand up for themselves, here is my real life example.”

Some parents also joined in the demonstration.
