By BBN Staff: The Belize Police department today issued a statement on the death investigation of police officer Steven Ferguson and his common-law-wife, Josephine Hamilton.
Authorities say that Ferguson and Hamilton are dead after an apparent murder-suicide at their residence in Punta Gorda.
Investigators informed that last night around 10:45, cops responded to report of shots being fired inside the Ferguson family home located on Faustino Zuniga street.
There, police saw the body of a woman later identified as Josephine Hamilton in a sitting position.
Near Hamilton’s body, police saw the body of police constable Steven Ferguson.
Ferguson was attached to the Toledo Police Formation.
Both Hamilton and Ferguson appeared to have sustained gunshot injuries.
A black gun was seen next to PC Ferguson.
A medical officer from Punta Gorda hospital responded to the scene and pronounced them dead at 11:20 p.m.
The Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, the senior rank and file of the Belize Police department extends their condolences to both the Hamilton and Ferguson families.
Police investigations are ongoing and additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
