$650,000 for Christmas Cheer 2018!

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize has allotted a total of $650,000 for this year’s Christmas cheer.

Each Area representative from the United Democratic Party (UDP) will receive $25,000 for gifts, hams and Christmas programs.

While area representatives of the Opposition, People’s United Party (PUP) will receive half of that sum, according to the Prime Minister.

When Prime Minister Dean Barrow spoke to the media yesterday he confirmed the amount. But when asked by journalists, if the PUP would raise the issue that they are not getting the same amount for Christmas cheer, Barrow replied stating that there must be a prize for the winners of the political contest.

“There must be a prize for being the winners of the political contest and there must be some recognition of the fact that as ministers, you have to work, not politically, but in terms of the duties of office and of government,” Barrow said.
