By BBN Staff: Today, a group of Belizean journalists arrived in The Hague, Netherlands. The purpose of their trip is to learn more about the overall functions and procedures of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The journalists will visit the ICJ, tour the court and get insights on international law from experts and discuss rulings on previous cases that the ICJ has adjudicated on.
The trip is courtesy of the United States Embassy in Belize. The US Embassy in Belize is providing support for Belize’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs ICJ education campaign. The theme of the trip is ‘From fear to facts, demystifying the ICJ.
The Journalists are accompanied by Natella Svistunova, Public Affairs Officer at the United States Embassy in Belize.
On April 10, 2019, Belizeans will be asked to vote in favor of or against taking Guatemala’s long-standing claim on Belize’s land, insular and maritime territory to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in a national referendum.
