Woman charged for death of her sister

BBN Staff: Last week we reported that Keidi Yesenia Ramirez died in San Juan Village in Southern Belize.

She was reportedly beaten and gagged following a domestic dispute with her family.

On Friday, police charged her sister, Isela Cano, with manslaughter.

Cano was taken to court in Independence Village and remanded into custody.

Initially, police had also detained the parents of Ramirez in connection with her death, but they have since been released.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had advised that Cano be charged with manslaughter.

However, sources have indicated that the DPP did not give any such advice.
