Belizean youths awarded for outstanding achievements

By BBN Staff: The Department of Youth Services (DYS), Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports & Culture ended its National Youth Month activities with the celebration of young leaders at the Belize Youth Awards 2018.

The year’s award show was celebrated under the theme “Amplifying the Voice of Youth.”

The event was held at Bliss Institute of Performing Arts on Friday November 23, and was attended by over 500 youth from across the length and breadth of Belize.

The 2018 Belize Youth Awards saw the nomination of over 100 youth from across Belize in 19 different categories.

There were six awardees from Belize District, six from the Cayo District and three from the Orange Walk district.

Three categories did not receive nominations; these were the ‘Strength through Diversity’, ‘Youth in Agriculture’ and ‘Outstanding Student Government’ categories.

The Corporate award was distributed to UNFPA.

The award winners for the various categories are as follows:

Innovation Award-Belize High School Robotics Club

Environmental Award-Leon Dawson

Volunteerism/Community Service Award-Belmopan Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program

Youth Club/Group Award- Rotary Club of Belize

Award of Outstanding Young Musician-Musa Al-Shaheed

Outstanding Religious Organization-Emerging Generation Youth Group

Youth in Sports(Female)-Jasmin Armstrong

Youth in Sports(Male)- James Bregal

Academic Excellence Award-Shanidi Chell

Outstanding Youth in Visual Arts-Daniel David Smith

Outstanding Youth in Media: Xavissa Molina

Fellow in Youth Development Work Award-The Belmopan Active Youths (BAY)

Youth Minister’s Award for Leadership-Kris Miller

The Department of Youth Service and by extension the Government of Belize congratulates all awardees and also nominated finalists.
