By BBN Staff: On Friday night Asher Saunders, 20, was murdered at Pier One Bar and Grill in Belize City.
Since his death, many concerned residents have taken to social media to call for the permanent close down of this establishment.
Yesterday the media spoke to Belize City’s Mayor Bernard Wagner whose council owns Pier One.
He revealed that his predecessor, Mayor Darrel Bradley, on 2014 entered a lease agreement with the operators of the establishment which will expire on 2026.
According to Mayor
Wagner, an establishment such as Pier One did not belong in the BTL park.
He further revealed that since his council leads the Trade and Liquor Licensing Board, it will review the status of Pier One.
Wagner revealed that he isn’t approaching the situation with malice but his council has given that establishment sufficient time to clean up its acts.
In recent months several bar brawls and disruptive incidents have unfolded there.
Mayor Wagner says this
simply cannot continue.
According to him, Pier
One must reorganize itself to avoid these continuous tragedies.
In the next few days
Wagner will be meeting with his legal advisors to determine a way forward.
